The City of Nampa Idaho...

Nampa's roots run close to the tracks as it is one of a multitude of towns that sprang up along the Oregon Shortline's tracks that were installed between Granger Wyoming and Huntington Oregon in the late 1800's. The Name Nampa is believe to be a derivative of a Shoshoni word "namb" which means footprint or moccasin. Contrary to popular belief there is another nampa located in Canada. In around 1885 the Nampa Land and Improvement Company, divided the original 160 acres into lots.

The Phyllis canal arrived in1890, bringing an abundance of irrigation water with it. This in turn attracted numerous settlers to Nampa Idaho and the surrounding areas. With the completion of this and other canals, the area surrounding Nampa, approximately 300,000 acres, could be cleared of sage brush and cultivated. Nampa Idaho incorporated in roughly 1891.

Today Nampa Idaho is multifaceted in that it serves as a bedroom community to Boise Idaho, still very agriculturally productive, and has a vibrant manufacturing base of computers, manufactured homes, constructions supplies and more.
